Written on January 30, 2008 at 9:58 am, by Amelia

Finally, the dreams of the Wren’s Nest have been answered.

Money? No.

Power too? Um, no.

Everything we ask for? Well, not quite.

But we DO have a theme song! Thanks to the Duck and Herring Co., you’ll be singing about superfly historical figures all day.

  1. Joe says:

I can’t wait to listen to this once I am not at work…

Although, even if I didn’t like it, I would lie and tell you it’s awesome. So:

    “That’s awesome!”

  2. lain says:

    Thanks Joe!

  3. Amelia says:

Yeah, thanks Joe! This means so much to us!

  4. Jodi says:

What a great song and so easy to remember!
    Let’s go to the Wren’s Nest! :)

  5. Scotty says:

Like Joe, I had to wait all day to listen to the song – that’s not the kind of thing that would go over well in the library.
I just now got a chance to listen to it, and I must say that it was well worth the wait. I want to go to the Wren’s Nest!

  6. Laurie says:

Can I have a copy of the lyrics? I’m having a vision….I see 22 first graders singing this in the near future!

  7. Pitchforkmedia.com says:

So far track of the year !!

  8. lain says:

    Ready, Laurie?

Let’s go to the Wren’s Nest,
Come to writers’ houses, it’s the best!
Joel Chandler Harris: my kinda guy,
He wrote stories that were superfly.

Let’s go to the Wren’s Nest,
Come to writers’ houses, beats the rest!
    Storytelling and ghosts galore,
Pretty soon they’ll have a store.*

    Doo doo doo…

I think those are the lyrics anyway. Perhaps the dude that wrote the song can correct me where I’ve failed to record them faithfully.

    * we already have one!

  9. lain says:

    Pitchfork! You’re so right!

It’s totally either the Wren’s Nest Theme Song or that single from Vampire Weekend. Once we can afford a drummer though…shoot.

  10. Joe says:

Since I forgot to listen to it last night, I went ahead and took the risk and listened to it at work. I am glad I did. I can see why it inspired so many blog posts!

Perhaps in the sprit of creative writing you could have a song writing contest, for either lyrics only or the music and lyrics.

  11. lain says:

    Joe, how daring!

And a song writing contest wouldn’t be half bad. I’ll think about how we could do that.

  12. Amelia says:

We just had 30 children dancing and singing along to this song, right before they asked for Lain’s autograph. They may be confused, but shoot if they weren’t having a great time.

  13. [...] After a morning filled with children dancing to the new Wren’s Nest song, Bossman Lain and I are headed to Savannah for their book festival. [...]

  14. benjy says:

it’s no super bowl shuffle, but it’s pretty danged good. got me dancing. today on this website i’ve seen Harris referred to as “superfly” and storytellers referred to as “dope.” Now to complete my treasure hunt of outdated 70s/80s/90s slangisms, I’m hoping something somewhere on here is considered “rad.”*

    *btw, Nannie is totally tubular.

  15. [...] Don’t let our smooth demeanor on television fool you. And just because we’ve had a theme song written spontaneously for our museum, please don’t assume we’re cool. [...]
