Wren’s Nest Postcards Felled By The United States Postal Service

Posted by: Amelia // Category: Events, This is awkward, Really? // 12:08 pm

On July 19th, the Wren’s Nest will be hosting a “Family Reunion”, aka Centennial Celebration of 100 years of honoring Joel Chandler Harris.

Family Reunion Invitation

(This is the least creepy way possible of saying we’re having a party for the anniversary of Harris’ death.)

Because this party is a Big Deal, we thought it would be best that more than 5 people attend.  So we sent out invitations.  Lots of ‘em.  The image you see above is on the front of the invitation postcard; details and space for the address are on the back.

And then we started getting them back.  Lots of ‘em.

They came back in bundles, all with the same label, telling us that no such address existed.  Thing is, the addresses were right.  We checked.  And then checked again. Even mine came back.  And you know what?  I’m proud to say that I can recognize my own address. I even have it memorized.

So today, sleuth that she is, Mama Shakes (also known as Annette, Lain’s mom) went to the post office to demand an explanation… in the most polite terms possible, I’m sure.

Family Reunion Back of Invitation with comments

Turns out the culprit is the location of our return address.  On some (but not all) of the invitations, the computer read this address as the “send to” address, sending them back to us in a jumble of confusion.

So I guess the point is, haven’t received an invitation yet?  It’s in the mail.

And!  I would be remiss not to point out that anyone who considers themselves part of the Wren’s Nest “family” is invited to this event.  Regular blog readers, that means you! (Just be sure to rsvp to amelia@wrensnestonline.com!)

Don’t know who printed the postcards - but they should have known about the address issue - too bad - I know some got delivered - I got mine - and someone from my Kiwanis Club also received theirs - I could use some extras if you have some.

  2. Ronni, we’ve got a few extras up for grabs, sure. Weirdly, though, getting them to their destination may be a bit of a challenge…

I can use the ones that have been returned - I am just going to give them to my Kiwanis Club members - and some friends - I’ll try to pick them up tomorrow or Saturday

  4. From our designers–

“…the post office apologized for the returned cards due to their scanner being slightly out of wack.

We used the same design for last year’s League of Decency postcard, and every design we’ve done for [all these other folks] has the return address in the same spot.

I know you guys completely understand that this was a glitch, but I just kinda want to clarify that it was a post office problem and not design problem.

We follow Modern Postcards standards which follow USPS regulations:

    Whew!”

  5. All I can say is I’m glad it wasn’t my handwriting! Ronni, I am re-mailing the returned ones, in envelopes this time, with a note of apology for the delay due to the PO’s crazy scanner. Plus, I’ll be printing the names and addresses - just in case!

Well, I got mine today no problem. And I was very impressed with it - great photo on the front.

Although I sort of think that emblem of JCH makes him look like the Quaker Oats guy.

Are you gonna have a contest to see who looks the most like the people on the front of the post card? Direct descendents receive a handicap based on their degree of separation and supporters receive extra credit for dressing like their favorite postcard visage? Maybe the winner gets a year’s supply of Quaker Oats…

  9. I got mine last week, with a handwritten note from Mama Shakes no less! It was awesome. I plan to attend.

  10. Jodi

I got mine! And I will be there…no fair about the contest though - from the competitors of Lucien’s descendants there are only two spots for Suzie, Robyn, Jodi, Rosie and Linda to compete for, and 4 spots for Lain to compete all by his lonesome!

I would love to see a contest and Period costumes too. Not Lain. I think it would be nice to have some ladies in white organza and big hats.
I got my post card and Greg and I will be there.

  12. How can we come uninvited if we can’t even read the tiny postcard on your blog?

  13. It’s probably in your best interest to RSVP (404.753.7735 // amelia@wrensnestonline.com) and then show up around noon for your free lunch. It’s that easy! No postcards necessary.

  14. […] You may recall that the Wren’s Nest hosted a Family (and friends) Reunion and Centennial Celebration on Saturday, July 19th.  It went swimmingly, in case you were wondering. […]
