Every so often a visitor will ask us if there is anywhere to eat in the West End, post-totally awesome Wren’s Nest tour.
It is important to know that they are asking this question earnestly, bracing themselves to hear that there is a complete dearth of dining establishments in this area of Atlanta. Which would be sad.

(Mercenary Amelia Trace eating up.)
The good news is that yes, there are restaurants! More than a couple, even.

(Bossman Lain wearing a cool shirt and eating up.)
The bad news is, it was becoming more and more difficult to respond to this timid question without laughing a little. Also, it kept us on the phone for a while, and you know how we feel about using the phone.
Solution! Allow me to welcome you to the newest page on the website, Places to Eat Around The Wren’s Nest That Not Only Exist, But Are Also Delicious (working title).
There you’ll find our totally biased recommendations of, essentially, where we go to lunch on Fridays. If you have any suggestions to add, don’t hesitate to do so in the comments.
So, who’s up for a tour and a lunch date?

Me Me, I am!!! But not for a bit as I am in Bangkok now on business.
Two other things:
1) I am one of those that asked Lain for his thoughts on this topic and have eaten at some of his recommendation and loved them.
2) You ask for other places, well allow me to pimp some things on the southside, also very accessible via MARTA:
a) Corner Tavern, East Point. Beer, good food, full bar, slightly alternative and outdoor seating available. Right across from MARTA, above H&R Block. Also, pool tables!
b) Thumbs Up Diner, also East Point. Down the side street from OZ Pizza. Also easy walk from MARTA. Breakfast and Lunch only.
c) Main Street in College Park: Across the street from the College Park MARTA is Main St, and on this street are several nice places: Noodle (Asian, quick and good, HUGE Portions), The Peacan (fancy, southern, and a nice place to go for a “special” meal), and Fina (Italian bistro, small but nice).
Wren’s Nesters, try them out! And if you do, let me know and I’ll join ya since I live a mere 5 minutes from any of these fine establishments!
Oh, wow thanks, Deb!
Sadly, I’m not sure if Amelia, Eduardo, or I have ever been anywhere in College Park, though we do frequent the East Point eats quite a bit. Jeri and Nannie, however, have been everywhere.
That said, great choices (maybe we’ll add a section for those coming to and from the airport, because that happens quite a bit too), and we’ll get down to College Park soon.
Great list - I can vouch for almost all of these - including the ones in East Point and College Park. You might want to check out the restaurants on Cascade Rd at I-285. There is a good seafood restaurant there, and a Longhorn’s -
You might also want to add hours of operation if you can get them without a lot of trouble. I used to love to go to Chanterelle - but they closed in very early evening = though that might have changed by now
On the short list of dining establishments I crave over twice a week, Thumbs Up ranks pretty high. Thanks for the reminder, Deb!
Maybe we’ll branch out a bit and make a specifically MARTA-oriented lunchtime guide sometime soon. For now, thanks for all the suggestions!
I just figure if your gonna have the Ptree Center on there, why not the EP and CP sites, since they are almost as close via MARTA?
[...] We know you often think to yourself, man, I wish I knew what Amelia and Lain were doing at all times. Sure, you know where we work, where we eat lunch, even the movies we see. But sometimes, just sometimes, that simply isn’t enough. [...]
