Nice interview Lain. Loved the way you made the distinction between Harris's writings and the movie. I remember being read the stories as a child. My memory is of great stories and in black and white, probably because of the artwork in the old editions. I never saw the movie until recently. Unwittingly (and I think Disney was a certain genius) the movie I believe has done a lot to malign the reputation of Harris, when actually Disney meant it as a great tribute to him. The movie with all it's Disneyfaction of the stories just doesn't do justice to the mythological importance of the tales tales recorded by Harris which possibly have the magnitude and importance of and importance of Grimm's Fairy Tales, Edith Hamilton's Greek Mythology and the Ramayana. But enough said.

Good job, Lain. We should revisit the idea of hosting forums to discuss and illuminate conflicting reactions to Harris' work.
