Lain Signs More Autographs Than You Would Think
Written on February 9, 2009 at 9:38 am, by Amelia
You know, like more than zero.
I expertly covered this phenomenon back in 2007, so you should really just read this post, as it’s still 100% pertinent. Especially if you’ve hopped on board since September ’07 (welcome!).
If you are one of those johnny-come-latelys, allow me to bring you up to speed:
- Lain is our executive director
- That is, not a famous person
- Yet, he signs autographs
- Because people request them
- This is totally weird
For those of you looking for a progress report, here it is: the epidemic is growing.

I totally want a genuine Lain Shakespeare autograph. It’ll be worth its weight in gold some day!
Peter is right! Lain, I should have had you sign my Protect the Nest t-shirt. It already got several compliments at a trendy Calgary bar on Friday night-and I got a lot of blank stares when I tried to explain what it was about. Should I try and act like it’s referring to a cool indie band, or promote the Nest to people who have never heard of Brer Rabbit and live 2000 miles away?
David and Peter are right, and not just because I’ve paid them for their statements.
Amelia, you will understand once your great-great-great grandfather gets famous.
David, normally I just say that Brer Rabbit is the African-American folktale that served as the godfather to Bugs Bunny. Everyone knows Bugs Bunny.
David, the trendy people of Calgary are correct: those shirts are awesome.
Speaking of drawing attention to awesome things, check out the corner of Lain’s red, red beard in the photo! Just like Joel Chandler Harris had!
I wish that beard could sign autographs.
I am now fully prepared for Wren’s Nest hipsterdom-thanks guys. Amelia, be careful encouraging bread growth, they can attack when full sized.
Does it count if he autographs things against someone’s will?
Because seriously…I can’t get this black Sharpie off my car door!
Yes that absolutely counts, DM. You will learn to love it. I have decreed it so.
Incidentally, I also signed yours “To Nicholas.” Consider yourself lucky.
Unfortunately, it was a rental.
