Baggy Britches in West End and Beyond

Today’s headline from ajc.com–

First of all, I want to be the person that writes headlines at the newspaper.
Second, what does a study of baggy britches entail? What kind of field work will this task force be doing?
Let me be the first to offer the Wren’s Nest front porch as a fine spot for watching baggy britches stroll by. West End, our neighborhood, is nothing if not chock-full of colorful under-britches prominently displayed by low-slung baggy-britches.
I, for one, am a baggy britches supporter, but then again, I don’t want to get too political on this blog. I’ll leave that to Creative Loafing.

does that make you a suspender?
. . . did I really just submit that?
Oh man, that’s terrible.
Even more terrible, I got this letter in the mail today:
“Dear Atlanta Citizen, Many constituents are concerned about the fad of wearing low hanging/saggy pants which expose one’s underwear and rectal cavity.
…Do you support it? Yes__ No__.
If not, why? _____
…Is it culturally correct to allow this type of behavior to continue? Yes__ No__.” …etc, etc.
And then there’s a “Call To Action” sheet:
- speak to every youth that you come into contact with
- assemble a panel at your local church
- hold a seminar*
- discuss this issue with your neighbors and friends
- involve your PTA and school officials
- implement a petition card drive
*Yes! The Wren’s Nest will hold a seminar! The topic: baggy britches and the rectal cavities they expose.
I promptly reported this to my Criminal Law professor, and she got such a kick out of it. We had just finished discussing what kind of activities are OK to criminalize. C’mon . . . baggy britches?
As the AJC so nicely pointed out this past weekend, Atlanta should also consider adding some other fashion donts like black socks worn with man sandals and shorts. Now THAT is really worth organizing the fashion police for because grown men should really know better.
Sigh, guilty as charged.
Kidding!
The wheels of government spin round and round or should I say up and down.
