Bad News for the Plaza Theatre, Maybe

Plaza Theater

Just when I thought I might catch the new-old-new version of Blade Runner at the Plaza Theater at my leisure, the gals at Pecanne Log throw some truly depressing news at us.

Can’t y’all hold out until Urban Outfitters opens up conveniently next door?

If the rumors propagated by Pecanne Log are true–and lets face it, that’s a reliable source if I’ve ever seen one–all of the Wren’s Nest blog-faithful are cordially invited to watch Blade Runner: the Final Cut tomorrow night at 9:30.

The entire staff of the Wren’s Nest under the age of 50 will be there, popcorn in hand.

Update: As per the comments below, the sleuths at Creative Loafing have spoken with the one of the owners, who says this, more or less: “we’re not closing.” The staff of the Wren’s Nest is undeterred from seeing Blade Runner, however. See y’all there.

    Phew! Thanks.

Also, game is still on for Blade Runner tomorrow night at 9:30.

  2. Joe says:

I am relieved at the updated news as well.

“…the sleuths at Creative Loafing have spoken with the one of the owners…”

Pointing out mistakes in writing pieces has actually gotten me into trouble in the past, but I will go ahead and take my chances.

  3. lain says:

Hmm…where is it, Joe? I’m all about rescinding mistakes today, but I don’t see this one.

Unless, of course, you’re referring to me calling the CL bloggers/reporters sleuths, which is not technically accurate, granted.

Maybe it’s just one sleuth singular?

  4. Due to increasingly tight times in the newspaper/massage-therapist directory business, we’ve had to cut back and can only keep one staff sleuth on the payroll. Chap came straight out-of-the-box with a huge magnifying glass.

  5. Joe says:

    “the one of the”

    ?

Perhaps it’s just a dialect issue? I think there’s an extra “the” in there somewhere though.

  6. lain says:

Joe, you’re exactly right. And I’m tired. It’s been a long week. Perhaps I’ll return to grammatical accuracy / fair, balanced, and accurate reporting tomorrow. Or, you know, perhaps not.

Either way, don’t believe a word Thomas Wheatley says. Times may be tight in the massage therapy promotion business, but that’s not stopping them from taking over the weekly newspaper business in your great state of Chicagoland, Joe. Not that that’s a bad thing, mind you.

  7. [...] We know you often think to yourself, man, I wish I knew what Amelia and Lain were doing at all times. Sure, you know where we work, where we eat lunch, even the movies we see. But sometimes, just sometimes, that simply isn’t enough. [...]

  8. [...] Of course, we reported that soon after we reported that the Plaza Theatre was closing. [...]
