The Associated Press article, “Wren’s Nest Welcomes All” ran in the Travel section of Ogden, Utah, Standard-Examiner on Sunday, November 8, 2009.

Great publicity for “The Wren’s Nest” and your site. I would never have known you existed if not for the article. Some of my fondest memories are of “Song of the South” and Uncle Remus stories.

Article ran in the Myrtle Beach paper, too; which made it to my door here in Columbia. As a result, I’m pretty sure you will hereafter and forevermore be known as Spunky Lain Shakespeare; though your mother, no doubt, has called you that for years.

I’m a former Atlanta girl who now lives in the beautiful Lowcountry of South Carolina. I was thrilled to read in my local paper, the Island Packet, about what you’ve done! Uncle Remus’ stories were my most beloved as a child, and we visited the Nest many times. I don’t think the stories were racist – Southern children grow up understanding the dichotomy between the great injustice that was done to the slaves and the fact that they were often beloved family members as well. Bless you for your great work – I’ll visit when I’m in town!

There’s definitely been a measurable uptick, Joe. Our busiest web traffic days for our main site (i.e. not our blog) have been the past three days.

I am 47 years old, I grew up on Brer Rabbit and Uncle Remus (even have a Uncle Remus doll), I loved these stories and I never thought of them as being racist. I grew up in the south, Florida. I wish you guys could bring back the Song of the South movie. I just found this web-site and I applaud all of you that made it possible for people like me. Thank You!!!

I think the article diminishes your achievements. You guys have done much more to revive the museum than just use Twitter and Facebook to promote it. All in all its a good article, and some nice publicity. Keep up the good work team.
