Ketchum: Wren’s Nest Wins!
While we’re patiently waiting for Carson’s Wren’s Nest Fest photos, I’ll fill you in on the latest news.
The Wren’s Nest has been awarded a grant from the marketing firm Ketchum South!
Now, this grant doesn’t involve any money directly coming our way (…sigh…), but it does involve a pretty slick idea–Ketchum will assemble its consultants for a marathon twenty-four hour brainstorming session (as in, like, noon to noon the next day) on behalf of seven non-profits.
Neat, huh.
Also, I am still undefeated as a grant writer: 2 – 0, with a few decisions pending.
I don’t want to jinx myself, but (more…)

Say, Sport Interviews Shakespeare
The other day I was interviewed by the editors at Say, Sport regarding my super-human breath-holding skills.
While our interview isn’t completely related to Wren’s Nest business, discussed topics include the breathing habits and bathing suits of Joel Chandler Harris. You might be curious, that’s all.
Read the full interview here.
Finally, check out this very blog tomorrow throughout the day. Wren’s Nest Intern Carson and Mercenary Amelia Trace will be posting pictorial updates of the greatest Wren’s Nest Fest ever!

Wren’s Nest Fest: Carson’s Last Day
Here’s another reason to come to Wren’s Nest Fest:
It’s Carson’s last hurrah! Yes folks, after Wren’s Nest Fest, Wren’s Nest Intern Carson is off to sunny California for training before she leads high school students around the mountains and lakes of Peru.
And she doesn’t even speak Spanish!
You’ve got today, tomorrow, and Friday to catch her before she leaves.
So…what are we going to do?
Replace her, that’s what!
You got a sneak peak last post, but let me formally introduce you to the next Wren’s Nest Intern: Mercenary Amelia Trace!
While I cannot promise that MAT will be as good of an intern as WNIC, I can promise you that her hair is curlier, which is a plus.

(Here they are loungin’ under our well trellis. You’d never know that they are mortal enemies.)
Feel free to welcome her–amelia (at) wrensnestonline.com.

Cookies, and cheese nips, and wheat thins, oh my!
Reason #481 you should come to Wren’s Nest Fest this Friday:
Think Amy can eat her way out of this two-ton pile of Nabisco products herself???

Ghost Hunt 2007, v4.0: Ladies Night
You heard right. It’s ladies night at the Wren’s Nest.

(That’s me on the hood)
And these aren’t just any ladies–they’re ghost huntin’ ladies!
All nine of them just waltzed in, and it’s about time, too! I get nervous here by myself after dark. Nothin’ like a pack of ghost hunting babes to keep me warm.
Stay tuned for live updates.
10:08 PM: Feeling good, settling in. Just a few hours ago I was judging our youth poetry slam here at the Wren’s Nest, and now I’m ghost hunting on ladies night. Does it get any weirder? (more…)

Atlanta Blogerati
This week’s cover story in Creative Loafing profiles five of the best Atlanta blogs around. Or, rather, five blogs that matter.

It’s hard to argue with their choices, particularly Doug Monroe’s outstanding Peachtree Screed and the often edifying I Saw It On Ponce.
The story laments the lack of bright lights in the Atlanta blogosphere:
At times, it can feel like the only traditional news-media platform the Atlanta blogosphere is ready to replace is “The Maury Povich Show.”
First of all, who is this Maury Povich? Is he referring to Mr. Connie Chung?
Second, I think Creative Loafing (which has its own blog / slew of blogs) should up the ante.
Might I suggest that for their next “Best of Atlanta,” they have their own “Best of Atlanta Blogs” section, and not just the handful of blogging awards they give out now. The number and quality of blogs is only going to skyrocket, and I feel like formal recognition would expedite the process.
Last month I would have said we’d be a shoe in for “Best / Only Historic House Museum Blog,” but as of May 23rd it looks like arch nemesis / good friend Rhodes Hall might just have something up their sleeve.
Third and finally, I don’t know about Carson, but I’m often self-conscious about making this one a blog that matters.
We seem to walk a fine line between “corporate blog” and “cat blog” (…um, not that there’s anything wrong with that). Sometimes, I feel like we’re both! …except we have a non-profit cat called the Wren’s Nest, and it happens to be more historically significant than most of the other cats out there.
I think if we hone our skills a little and keep wise-crackin’, maybe–just maybe–next year we’ll be ready to be a blog that matters.
Edit (6:52 pm): If such a thing is possible, I totally misspelled “Blogerati” the first time around. My bad!
Edit (6:54 pm): …just did it again. I’ll stick to real words from here on in.
